Destiny Rewinder interactive comics

So, you might’ve seen images floating around online of Frieren, from the hit seasonal anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, talking about Beyblade. Those come from a collaboration game between the manga Destiny Rewinder, the Beyblade X toyline, and the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End franchise.
It’s a neat crossover… and I’m sick of people ignoring Chrono in it!! He’s there too!! It’s HIS manga!! Please play his games and give the kid a little more respect!

Play online:
01 – Escape from the Ocean Prison
02 – Reincarnated Into Another World
03 – Beyblade X & Frieren Crossover

The next interactive comic will be a collaboration with Detective Conan! We’re going to need the help of a game programmer for that one. Please contact us if you’re interested!

These interactive comics are freely available online (at least for the next few months). Destiny Rewinder and Beyblade X run in the same magazine; Frieren and Conan share the same publisher. FYI, if you aren’t checking out the new generation of Beyblade, you’re missing out. I figure the readership on this release will be 80% Frieren, 19% Beyblade, and <1% Rewinder fans, so here’s some background information.

“The Long Silver-Haired Anime Boy Who Ruined Your Life” Poll Results

This was a poll hosted by blogger batankyu in July of this year, which ended up netting over 72,000 votes! I translated the results on a rolling basis over the past months, both out of curiosity and for science. This is not quite a popularity poll, but is rather about the character who influenced you the most. Every otaku’s had a formulative experience with one of these guys.

There are fan comments for pretty much everyone, but obviously that’s too much to translate. You’re welcome to check out the source pages. This is limited to 2D characters only, and it still counts if their hair color/length is different between media or at different times.

There are a lot of semi-obscure properties on here which ranked surprisingly high. I think this is a good indicator of how Japanese cultural tastes differ from what we might expect. Licensors, take note!!

So, how high did your fave end up?

Cap Revolution Bottleman DX Interview (Winter 2022)

Cap Revolution Bottleman DX, the anime which I posted about last year, has concluded! It DID go places that I never expected and the anticipation each week was insane. You really did have to be there… but you can still go watch Bottleman now! Check out Seigyoku’s excellent subs!
The following interview is still interesting from a technical standpoint if you’re not familiar with the show. Contains no specific spoilers.

Mado King Granzort Shocking Secret Story: Rabby’s Past

I came across the 09/1989 issue of Animedia a couple weeks ago on the Lunar New Year and bought it just based on the holiday-appropriate cover. To my surprise, it included an entire booklet of illustrated side stories for Tenkuu Senki Shurato, Mado King Granzort, Sonic Soldier Borgman, Samurai Troopers, and Juushin Liger. Surprisingly, there doesn’t seem to be any information about this booklet at all online. All of these stories are written by official staff, so they’re probably canon (or at least compliant). The barely-edited RAWS can be found at the link below, for those interested in the other series.

Anyway, I figured this was my divine sign to finally watch Granzort for real. The show’s imaginative and magical and has cool robots, so I’m having a great time. If you like Double Drive, this has a similar concept with a better execution. You should be safe reading this translated mini-manga any time after episode 8, since the magazine was released around episodes 18-19.

Download the manga here. Download the raws here.

[BOIL] Kamizmode & Uramon

[BOIL] is picking back up after a hiatus with a batch release of Saikyo Kamizmode! 15-18! Seeding individual episodes is kind of a pain. Plus we’ve started on a new weekly running manga, Urban Legend Professor Uramon! It’s good wholesome PG-rated horror, very fun stuff. Check it out if you’re looking for something fresh!

[Seigyoku] Cap Kakumei Bottleman DX 01

I participated in karaoke and translation check on Bottleman DX episode 1 subs! This was complete happenstance. I had a cool weekend project playing with karaoke automations lying around and Seigyoku needed another ear in the absence of captions. Win-win!

Bottleman is T*kara T*my’s latest shooter toyline, this time with a carbonated drinks motif. Even the characters are thinly-disguised gijinkas of popular soda brands. While there’s your basic “aim to be number one” plot going on here, episode 1 of DX has set up for like five different intertwining subplots already. It’ll be fun to see where it goes!

You can check out the full release post with a DL link here.

Saikyo Kamizmode! Episode 1 [joint release] + introduction

So when that isolated episode 17 dropped in April, we weren’t planning on doing Kamizmode in earnest for a while yet… except Amitie got really fixated on it and decided to go ahead with the project. We’ll try to keep a regular release schedule, but no promises.

This is a [BOIL] release. The main release post with download links can be found here.  I’m just doing karaoke styling and translation checking on this project.

So, what is Kamizmode and why should you care?
