Destiny Rewinder interactive comics

So, you might’ve seen images floating around online of Frieren, from the hit seasonal anime Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, talking about Beyblade. Those come from a collaboration game between the manga Destiny Rewinder, the Beyblade X toyline, and the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End franchise.
It’s a neat crossover… and I’m sick of people ignoring Chrono in it!! He’s there too!! It’s HIS manga!! Please play his games and give the kid a little more respect!

These interactive comics are freely available online (at least for the next few months). Destiny Rewinder and Beyblade X run in the same magazine; Frieren and Conan share the same publisher. FYI, if you aren’t checking out the new generation of Beyblade, you’re missing out. I figure the readership on this release will be 80% Frieren, 19% Beyblade, and <1% Rewinder fans, so here’s some background information.

About Destiny Rewinder

Synopsis

The Time-Space Special Operatives Force was established in 2087 to prevent unexpected deaths in the past. Rewinder agents use the Retry Eye embedded in their right eye to repeat time hundreds and thousands of times over until their target is saved. Chrono is one such agent, who loops back through time to save people from robberies, bombings, crashes, terrorism, mysterious circumstances, and more!

Characters

Chrono: A Rewinder who stubbornly refuses to give up on saving people, no matter how many times he has to repeat the same traumatizing loop. He’s often forced into trolley situations where he has to choose between the lives of the one or the many. His ultimate goal is to save his little sister Tokine, whose death has so far been irreversible.
Smartphone: Chrono’s AI assistant who remembers mission details.
Shirai: Chrono’s mentor. A 26-year-old whose hobby is making terrible puns. His own Retry Eye was damaged while trying to save Tokine, so he’s no longer in active duty.
Akaba: A Rewinder who admires Shirai and therefore sees Chrono as a rival. He talks like a samurai (washi/ze yo). His Version Up power is Forward.
Lemon: A Rewinder android created for physically demanding missions. She develops emotions after befriending a doomed target. Her Version Up power is Stop.

• Alcashirazu is a blatant parody of Alcatraz. Shirazu means, among other things, “clueless.”
• Akuji means “crime.”
• Akuji uses kora at the end of his sentences to highlight his rough-and-tumble attitude. This has been localized to various “buddy” words with increasing degrees of affection.

• The fruit selection is limited to fruits that are 3 moji in Japanese, which is an extra hint.
• The Sintrus Forest was originally カンキツの森, a pun on “wicked” and “citrus.”
• The hint on Lemon’s route is a mediocre untranslatable pun. We struggled for at least 15 minutes trying to figure out what it referred to on our first playthrough (and ended up cheating). It’s been changed to something more comprehensible in the translation just to save everyone some frustration.
• A few instances of “Demon Lord” were changed to “Gondra” just for spacing/grammatical reasons.

• Select fonts were borrowed from Kid Named Bird.
• The secret click action was originally a swipe action, but recreating that is beyond my technical knowledge.
• Question #3 originally asked about kanji stroke order, which is not something I’d expect the English readership to know. It was changed to a basic question about Destiny Rewinder (which is visible right on the title page).
• Majuin’s name is a mix of the name Ijuin with the “magic” prefix 魔. The 魔s on his design have been captioned with “devil.”
• Majuin is a clear parody of Atsumasa Ijuin from Super B-Daman. This chapter is likely inspired by one of the tournament arcs in the manga/anime.
